About Turquoise

The Alluring Turquoise
In North America most Turquoise grows in dry copper rich regions hence Southwest mines produce the largest amounts. It has been mined since early prehistoric times. Although rare deposits have also been discovered in Alabama and southern Virginia.Elsewhere it’ s been found in Peru, Australia, Iran, Siberia, China, Ethiopia, France, Germany, and the Sinai Peninsula. Today,it is found in Iran, China and the American Southwest. Chemically Turquoise is a chemical combination of Copper, Aluminum, phosphorus and hydroxyl- OH groups as deposits along fractures and cavities in the mother rock. The blue color is the result of copper in the stone.

The deeper shade of blue, the more copper present. Iron present in Turquoise presents various shades of green. The ancient ancestors valued Turquoise as the supreme life giving power and a protection stone during transition from this life.Cerrillios mines had in fact the
largest deposit of turquoise on the American continent.

Turquoise is worn by healers as it gets you in tune with the person requiring healing. It promotes peace and prosperity, good fortune, strength and protection. The next time you purchase turquoise for adornment ,remember it is much more than a pretty piece of Jewelry!

The Metal and jewelry care

The golden bronze metal (copper and small amount of tin) is created using an alloy developed in a Thailand factory. The exclusive blend of metals gives a warm glow which rivals 18k gold without the high price of gold.
it is solid throughout so will never rub off. The gleaming shine will last for years to come without tarnish.
To protect your jewelry avoid water while wearing and keep in an airtight bag or jewelry box.
An Ecoat is applied to even further protect the metal and over time a rich patina might develop adding to the character of your jewelry

To restore the original gleam you can use a jewelry polish cloth/ mild detergent with water and a scrub brush will work for deep cleaning

I’ ve had a fascination with gemstone jewelry since I can remember. I used to buy faux turquoise j ewelry with my allowance as a child. In my early 20s’ , I was a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City studying fashion and merchandising since fashion is in my blood. I remember purchasing my first genuine Turquoise and Spiny oyster shell cuff I wore hugging my wrist when my mother looked at it and began telling me about my great grandmother. She was a Cherokee Indian from South Carolina. I believe she is still alive within me. I started selling gemstone and sterling silver j ewelry at festivals and opened a shop in a local flea market selling gemstone j ewelry and crystals. I began making my own jewelry. Several times I was stopped on the street by people asking me to purchase a piece I was wearing on my neck.

Turquoise always had an allure for me. I consider it sacred. I traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico for a work travel assignment. I made my way up to the town of Cerrillos. This old mining town is where Tiffany Jewelry Turquoise came from. The mine has since been closed. It was a spooky travel because I drove solo. It took me several hours to drive up the mountain and when I got there, all I kept thinking was I must get out of here. I managed to get a few pieces of Turquoise from the only old mining shop still standing. Traveling back down the mountain I was in heaven. I traveled the Turquoise Trail and must have stopped at
every Turquoise shop to collect some beautiful Turquoise j ewelry I still wear. You will hardly ever not find me wearing Turquoise!
